Digital sovereignty for local authorities

grommunio and CANCOM together at KITU Day

Magdeburg, September 2025. The partnership between grommunio, the open source alternative to Microsoft Exchange, and Cancom SE, one of Germany’s largest IT system houses, is bearing fruit: at the end of September, the partners took part at the KITU Day in Magdeburg, where representatives from the public sector met.

Kommunale IT-UNION eG (KITU,) is a municipal IT service provider that supports districts, cities, and municipalities with digitization, secure IT infrastructures, and the implementation of modern administrative processes. KITU regularly runs campaigns for the public sector, for example on cybersecurity with the SICHERKOMMUNAL project.

KITU and CANCOM

At the KITU Day 2025 in Magdeburg, manufacturers such as CANCOM gave KITU members an exclusive demonstration of how they can future-proof themselves with innovative IT solutions. The event focused on topics such as open source groupware, data protection, and security—key aspects for local authorities and public administrations. Norbert Lambing and Michael Kromer were there on behalf of grommunio, answering questions and engaging in technical discussions with participants.
